Creative Nature Trails and Sculpture Exhibits

Last summer, visitors to The Patch MK experienced more than just beautiful flowers and stunning countryside views. In a unique collaboration between our local farming family and internationally renowned sculptor Erik Schmitz, we were proud to host The Last Footprint within our flower fields.

The striking outdoor sculpture exhibition invited visitors to pause, reflect and engage with thought-provoking artwork set amongst the natural beauty of the farm. The installation proved incredibly popular, attracting thousands of visitors and becoming one of the standout features of our 2025 summer season.

While The Patch is taking a fallow year from summer events in 2026, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who visited and supported The Last Footprint, helping to make it such a memorable part of our flower field experience.

Set against the breath taking backdrop of 500,000 sunflowers and over 50 million wildflowers, The Last Footprint features eight large-scale sculptures crafted entirely from sustainable and reclaimed materials, including timber from our family farm in Milton Keynes and offcuts donated by Linnell Bros Timber Merchants in Towcester.

Each piece of the exhibition represents a species which is considered to be vulnerable to extinction in the wild. The sculptures form a moving tribute to the fragile beauty of the natural world and the impact each life leaves behind.

Nestled amongst our flower fields, it’s a powerful reminder that every life, like every petal, is part of a greater cycle and that we all leave a mark.

Whether you’re an art lover, a family seeking summer adventures, or a nature enthusiast, The Last Footprint offers something unique: an immersive experience that blends environmental awareness with the joy of outdoor discovery.

This is more than an exhibition.
It’s a quiet call to notice, to remember, and to act.

Engaging Outdoor Discovery Activities for Kids

We’ve always wanted The Patch to be about more than just a fun day out. It’s about creating meaningful memories, and this installation is exactly that. It’s beautiful, yes, but it’s also thought-provoking and deeply moving. We are looking forward to seeing these imposing sculptures against the backdrop of our gorgeous sunflowers as they go through their lifecycle from bud to bloom.
